On Mission: Turn on the Light

I don’t know if you remember being afraid of the dark as a kid, but I do. And now that I have kids of my own, it's on my mind most nights. Every night, I check to make sure their nightlight is on for them. Sometimes I have to move it closer, flip the room lights for a moment so they can see it's safe, or open the closet door just to show them there’s nothing hiding in there. The dark can be unsettling. Shadows play tricks. Creaks in the floor suddenly feel louder. Our imagination starts running wild.

But then, someone turns on the light. And just like that, everything changes. What felt scary is now familiar. What seemed uncertain becomes clear. There’s peace again.

That’s what Jesus does for us. We were lost in the dark, unsure, broken, weighed down by sin, and he turned on the light. He gave us clarity. He shows us where to go. And even when life still feels a little scary, his presence brings peace.

Verse for the Week:
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’” -John 8:12 (NIV):

Quick Thought and Challenge:
Just like a lighthouse, Jesus permeates the darkness with hope, and he wants His church to be that beacon for the lost. How can you be His beacon of hope in our community for those that haven't found the Light yet?

P.S. I know it’s been a little while since the last On Mission post. It’s been tough to keep up with writing these every week but I think they are and, most of all, you are important. Moving forward, my plan is to write and post them once or twice a month. I hope they continue to encourage you and help keep our mission in focus.
