On Mission: Numbering Our Days

Verse of the Week
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
— Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

Quick Thought
I’ve been thinking a lot this week about how short and fragile life is. I've experience a lot of loss this past week. A friend of mine passed away unexpectedly in his mid-30s, just a few months younger than me. A man who was loved by many, but whose life was tragically cut short. My grandma also passed away just a few days later. A woman who was also loved by so many. She had many grandkids and great grandkids and lived a fill life.

There’s something about loss that pulls everything else into focus. Especially when someone has been taken from you far too soon. The things that seemed big suddenly feel small. The things that felt urgent seem to loose their urgency or just get forgotten. What you’re left with is clarity on what matters, who matters, and why we’re here in the first place.

Moments like this don’t just remind us that life is short, but as a believer they remind us of the Hope we have in Jesus in the midst of this short life we have on earth. It reminds us of the urgency of the Gospel and that people all around us need to meet that Hope. It reminds us that what we do with the time we’ve been given actually counts for something, and encourages us to seek God's purpose for our life.

I find solace in this. Because Jesus died, we don’t grieve without hope. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow. And because He’s calls us by name, we can help others find that same hope.

Challenge
Take a moment this week to pause and reflect. Who in your life needs to be hear that they matter to you and to God? Who needs to hear the hope you have in Jesus? Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Make the most of the one in front of you.

Be real. Love boldly. Live on Mission.
